I am directed by Secretary SipE. Grey to acknow-

You ledge the receipt of your letter N644887 of the 12th

instant covering a copy of a despatch from the Governor

of Hong Kong in regard to the movements of the Consul

General for Italy in the Colony and in South China

Before making any communication to the French

Ambassador on the subject Sir E. Grey would be glad to

know whether the Secretary of State for the Colonies

has approved the Governor's language and action as re-

ported in his despatch, and whether Monsieur Volpicelli is really removing the Consulate General from Hong Kong !!
